Ms. Pac-Man

After the horrendous conversion of Pac-Man to the Atari 2600 you would be forgiven for ignoring this conversion of the feminine themed sequel. But if you do then you are denying yourself one of the best arcade experiences available on this classic machine. Much like Defender II, Ms. Pac-Man, corrects everything wrong with the first game and manages to be amazingly close to the original coin-op it is based upon. No more flickering ghosts here you will be pleased to hear and Ms. Pac-Man can also face in all four directions (unlike her hubby) when she makes her way around the proper mazes collecting the changing fruit bonuses and pac-pellets. The ghost A.I. and difficulty has also been tweaked and improved to close ape the coin-op. Literally the only thing missing here is the cut scenes, and that can be excused given the limited amount of memory they had on offer. The choice of colours and sound effects are also much closer to their arcade counterparts than they were in the prequel too. When it comes to maze games on the vintage VCS then Ms. Pac-Man is top of the heap and there is no doubt that this game should be an integral part of any serious Atari 2600 collection!
